In most countries in the world there are mandatory regulations for the protection of machines and plants. The type of regulation varies from region to region to suit that particular environment in both a cultural and legal sense. The margin of enforcement stretches from obligatory laws to non-binding recommendations. Even the level of jurisdiction administered to guarantee compliance can be quite different. In some regions a personal certification suffices, elsewhere however, commercial institutions carry out inspections according to their own rules and in other areas the certification must be carried out exclusively by institutions authorised by the state.
