Members met in Nuremburg - Safety Network elects a new board

The Safety Network International e.V’s Annual General Meeting took place on the 23rd November 2011. Apart from electing a deputy chairman of the board and treasurer, other topics on the agenda included the admission of pre-members into the organisation, the financial report and projects planned for the oncoming year 2012.

Klaus Löffler stood for election for deputy chairman of the board for Safety Network International e.V. Mr. Löffler is the international sales manager for laser systems at Trumpf GmbH & Co. KG in Ditzingen. He was confirmed unanimously in the office which he has successfully managed since 2008. Stephan Olding is the chief managing director of the German subsidiary of the company Pilz GmbH & Co. KG. He stood for re-election as treasurer in the association. He too was confirmed unanimously in this trustworthy office, which he has been involved in since the foundation of the organisation in 1999.

Technical Commitees - define common Standards

During the Genaeral Members Meeting 2011 the member companies agreed upon the activities in 2012 and started a variety of different technical committees. These newly founded committees under the umbrella of the user organistation all have the same goal. This is to discuss common objectives, to determine and define standards and formulate recommendations which will guide the SafetyNET p user in various applications. All member companies are invited to join these committees.

The positive development of the organisation is valued as a trend in the right direction. It underlines the significance of this organisation and both communication systems.

Safety Network Japan participated in SCF 2011

Safety Net work Japan (SNJ) participated in System Control Fair (SCF) 2011 at Tokyo Big Sight between 16 and 18 November. At SNJ booth, new products from the member companies were exhibited: Industrial wireless LAN from Moxa and Ethernet switch from Harting among others.

Also on the last day, a special seminar was held on site, and a large audience gathered around the SNJ booth. The seminar started with a presentation on SafetyNET p technology and its recent applications by the chairman of the international organization Safety Network International (SNI) Yannick Le Héno. He introduced application examples of SafetyNET p at a packaging line in a French food manufacturer as well as a body production line in the automotive industry. During the break, a few visitors asked questions about the SafetyNET p technology, for which Mr. Le Heno provided answers. After that, Professor Sugimoto from Meiji University gave a lecture titled: "Recommendation for proactive safety measures which expect high productivity". Using examples such as the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident and a railroad crossing accident in Asahikawa, he explained some issues of the current Japanese safety measures. He explained the pitfall of safety measures based on risk detection and the need to implement those based on safety confirmation. He also stressed the need to compensate for human errors with safety technology.

The participation in SCF 2011 ended successfully due to the collaboration between SNI and SNJ. The next SCF is scheduled for the year 2013. We will welcome you to our booth then.

SafetyNET p – Safety profile is recognised as an international standard

The real-time Ethernet system SafetyNET p has been accepted within the IEC and has the international standard IEC 61784-3-18.

Along with the positive vote from the IEC 61784-3-18 in February 2011, the safety profile for SafetyNET p has also been accepted in the status for international standards thus completing the SafetyNET p standard series. The basic communication (IEC 61158 TYPE 22) and the real-time communication (IEC 61784-2 CPF 18) from SafetyNET p were already accepted in the IEC in the year 2010.

This is acknowledgement for the open SafetyNET p Technology. Manufacturers are able to integrate SafetyNETp interfaces in their products. All documents required for implementing SafetyNET p such as specifications, hardware and software protocoll stacks can be obtained from Safety Network International e. V. The organisation supports the manufacturers of SafetyNET p machinery throughout the entire process from the first product idea to the product conformity.
