Safety Network International e.V. – Forum for Safety and Automation

During the Hanover Trade Exhibition 2010 Safety Network International e.v. presented their official report for the previous business year. Despite the fall in global economic development, in 2009 the organisation was able to develop in a positive direction. It was possible to maintain the same number of member companies from the previous year.

Amongst the many realised projects, one in particular should be mentioned, and that is the successful adaptation of SafetyNET p specifications into the standardised range 61784-3 of industrial Ethernet profiles.
The further development and distribution of basic world wide safety standards is still of great importance in several countries including in many Asian countries. In Japan, resident organisation Safety Network Japan will celebrate the tenth anniversary of their foundation in June 2010 within the scope of a national roadshow. In China, a foundation meeting is planned for Safety Network China in October 2010. In Europe, the main objective is still the distribution of the communication system with SafetyNET p in various applications. Safety Network International will act as a backup in the implementation and certification of new active and passive components and machines.

Presumption of Conformity EN 954-1 Extended for Two Years

With the publication in the European Journal C321 on the 29.12.2009 it is now official: The European Commission has extended the presumption of conformity for the EN 954-1 for a further two years, until 31.12.2011. With the extension of the presumption of conformity EN 954-1, the commission agents have followed suggestions made by the Machinery Commission at the meeting on the 7th /8th December.

Manufacturers and users of machinery listed under the EN 954-1:1996 standard are therefore also able to use the EN ISO 13849-1 standard parallel, in order to attain the presumption of conformity according to the machinery directive. There are however, a number of issues which must be observed. There are currently product names (C standards), which refer exclusively to the
EN ISO 13849-1. The EN 954-1 would therefore no longer produce a presumption of conformity for these particular products.

As machine safety experts, our membership organisation Pilz has certified all products according to the EN ISO 13849-1 and organised its offered range of services accordingly. For the next few years design engineers will still be supplied with products and services required for building machinery according to the EN 954-1
